Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, 4 Others Get Life Term in Sect Manager Murder Case2 min read


On 18th October the special CBI court has sentenced the Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and 4 others – Krishan Lal, Jasbir Singh, Avtar Singh, and Sabdil to life imprisonment in the 19-year-old murder case of manager Ranjit Singh which has happened nearly two decades ago.
The special court has also ordered the convicts to pay the fine Ram Rahim was told to pay ₹ 31 lakh fine and other convicts Abdil-₹ 1.5 lakh, Krishnan and Jasbir- ₹ 1.25 lakh each, and Avtar is required to pay ₹ 75,000. From this fine 50% will be given to Ranjit Singh’s family.
The Special Court of CBI in Haryana’s Panchkula has found all the five convicts guilty earlier this month.
Ram Rahim, who has been held at Sunaria Jail in Rohtak district since his 2017 conviction for raping two followers, appeared in court by videoconference; the others were present in the trial in person.

Police have increased security at Panchkula and Sirsa (where the sect’s headquarters are located) in anticipation of probable bloodshed following the court’s decision.
Nevertheless, the case got postponed until Monday while defense counsel requested more time to evaluate some of the prosecution’s points presented during the sentencing hearing.
Ranjit Singh who is the victim in the case was the manager and the follower of the sect was murdered in the year 2002. As he was suspected of involvement in distributing the anonymous letter explaining how Ram Rahim has sexually abused women. Thereafter, Ram Rahim has devised a plot to assassinate Ranjith Singh as per the CBI’s charge sheet.
